Moving Image

Monarch Of Glen

In this clip we can clearly see two juxtaposing contrasts of age presented in Monarch of the Glen. We are able to see this clearly through the two completely differant story lines. One of them presenting a young, teenage girl in who portrays selfishness, contrasting with a portrayel of selflessness in the second shot while a more older generation take part in community service. This creates a negative portrayel of the younger generation.

As we can tell, Amy's camera shots and scenes go on for a lot longer than the hard at work older generation's do which may further signify the selfish and perhaps ignorant portrayel of the girl due to perhaps thinking the world relvoves around her which inhances the reckless portrayel of teenagers which differ from the older cast who do not ask for anything in return for their hard work.

The mise-en-scene of the clip conveys a dramatic change in clothing between the two generations, due to the girl wearing denim jeans and a light top which typically conveys the average teenage, refusing to wear a coat in case it ruins her outfit, jusxtaposing with an older generation who are wrapped up in warm, appropriate clothing which conveys how they are dressing for comfort whereas the girl is dressing to impress. The denotation of the older head master is that he is extremely formal with a posh voice, wearing a red tie which has clear stereotypes of danger, preparing us for the car crash and the confrontation which happens next in the clip. The headmaster clearly opposes the girl in terms of age due to the non diagetic voices conveying an image of perhaps common and uneducated as a younger generation. Moreover, the teddy bear seen in the girls room is clear to convey a sence of immaturity and clear to being a younf girl. Adding to this point, the pink essence of the room may further describe how the girl is stil only young and is typically seen in a younger girls room. Also the envelope left is extremely girly and child like.

While Amy is trying to run to the car, we see a close up mastershot of her, so we focus on only her, this makes us relalise that she is unaware of what she is doing and we can clearly see the immaturity of her facial expressions preparing us for the car crash. Howevwe, she shoes determination to represent the younger generation and how they can not be proved wrong or told what to do. The mastershot makes us concentrate on her coming across as lieing and decieving which gives an extremely negative portrayel of the younger generationas this gives us the first indication that she is not whoe she says she is.

The non diagetic music while the community convey and image of selflessness is extremely jolly and happy which really emphasizes the hard work in which is being presented. As they are effectively workin in time to the music. It creates an upbeat optomistic atmosphere to the scene which may symbolise that the older generation are happy to work and strongly enjoy it.

As we can see, as Amy runs she looks extremely fit and has no limitation while running which shows she is fit and healthy where as when the older women is running she appears out of breath and tires which conveys how much of a struggle it was for her contrasting with Amy's representation of a fitter, younger generation.

For me personaly, I feel this clip is slightly biased upon age due to representing younger generations in a negative, wreckless way, conveying rebellion and immaturity.
